If you want to spice up your fantasy football league this year with a little action on the LFL, here’s some tips for newcomers on how to draft LFL players. If you follow the same formula you did to win your NFL fantasy league, you’ll end up sorely disappointed when it comes to the LFL fantasy leagues.
The NFL has become a passing league, but the LFL is a rushing league. The workout programs and athleticism of the girls is much different and often the girl with the most speed plays running back. With only 7 defenders, that means gaping holes for the finest runners in the LFL.
Receivers and Running Backs are Inter-Changeable
Kind of like Tavon Austin of West Virginia. Sometimes, the running backs will work out of the slot and the wide receiver will move into the backfield. There’s also a lot of reverses and the like to try to isolate the speed players of the skill positions. So, don’t get too hung up on the running back and receivers monikers.
Passing is Coming
The passing game improves every year, but the quarterbacks haven’t played enough football to get the reads down and they often stare down the intended targets. Passing games will improve as the girls gain experience, but with only a 4 game season, its not something that’s going to happen overnight. Most of the passes come from the guys in the stands, but most of them fall incomplete.
Kickers are Irrelevant
Sure, they do kickoff, but there’s no punting in the LFL and there’s no field goals. Even the extra points are not kicked. So, don’t draft a kicker or you’ll be saddled with a big goose egg every game and wonder why if you’ve never been to a game.
Defenses are Important
Choosing the right defense is critical. Since LFL teams always go for it on fourth down, there’s a good opportunity for defenses to rack up points for sacks and interceptions.
Regular Season is Only 4 Games
After the 4 game regular season, the top 4 teams advance to the playoffs. So, it’s absolutely critical that you pick players from teams that will qualify for the playoffs.
Get MariRose Roach
If you have the first pick, you don’t have any thinking to do at all. Pick MariRose Roach of the Philadelphia Passion. All Roach did last year was score 21 touchdowns in five games. Unfortunately for the Passion, she couldn’t compete in Lingerie Bowl. You can follow MariRose on Twitter here.
